The skyline of downtown Birmingham may undergo an impressive transformation if plans for a new tower are approved. The Regal Property Group has submitted plans for the construction of what will be the largest building in Birmingham, if the plans are approved by the city council.
The new tower, which is to be named the Regus, will be a 208-metre complex which will address a number of business needs for different organizations. With office spaces and residential accommodations, this tower has been planned to function as a multi-use building.
The office fitout will span 56 floors of this new construction. Meeting rooms, conference halls and restaurants will make it an ideal business destination for different companies. With a winter garden, sky bar, boutiques, a leisure area and impressive retail space, the tower is all set to be a haven for the sophisticated elite.
The project is estimated to cost around £125m. Once completed, the tower will dwarf the BT Tower, which is 150 metres high and currently holds pride of place as the tallest building in Birmingham.
Midlands property developers hope to start work on the three-year project by 2010 end, if approval is granted by the city planning authorities. They believe that once completed, this building will change the skyline of Birmingham and bring in fresh businesses looking at office relocation, and increased commercial activity here. It will also result in more employment opportunities in the city.
Roger Holbeche of Midlands remarked that Aedas Architects has designed the tower to make it stand tall as a significant landmark in the city. With more projects like these, Birmingham appears to be well on its way to acquiring the coveted Big City status.
